At a CPRS event last week, mentorship guru Elizabeth Verwey, storyteller extraordinaire and purveyor of reasonable quotes, shared this quote with me:
“Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness.” – James Thurber
With multiple CCPR deadlines (just 27 days of class left!), projects and internship opportunities on the horizon, it’s important to focus on the present moment, and make the most of our time. Would haves and should haves are time wasters: doing is the current focus. Getting done is the goal.
Elizabeth mentioned that most people remember their first formal mentor, and half that number believe they have mentored someone. It reminds me of an employment campaign I am currently working on, where we encourage people to Be That Person. With CPRS and IABC setting up formal mentors for graduating students, the importance of advice, mentorship and industry connections is becoming strongly enforced. Which brings me to my next point: I am making a point to interview people; probably weekly. Stay tuned.
